Description of Assos Love

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathrooms

Assos Love Overview

Two-bedroomed Assos Love offers a romantic retreat in north-west Kefalonia. The luxury villa is set in the hillside, next to the beautiful pine forest, and boasts unrivalled views of the rugged mountainous landscape and blue azure Ionian.

Spend your days lounging by your private swimming pool and your nights watching the ooh-worthy sunsets from your terrace. There’s a path near the villa which leads to an old lighthouse next to the sea. Explore the pear trees, cedar and vines en-route and when you arrive dive into the water for a refreshing swim or snorkel.

Back at the villa, you’re greeted with an elegant interior that effortlessly combines style and comfort. Think plush bedding, draped white voile curtains and bright pops of the colour in the contemporary wall art.

The palette is mainly a soft mixture of greys and neutrals, and there are plenty of large glass windows – both creating that extra feeling of light and space. There’s a fully-equipped kitchen on the ground floor, along with a bathroom and simple living and dining room.

The two bedrooms – a large twin bedroom on the ground floor and a master double bedroom on the second floor – are equally stylish and inviting. The first has direct access to the swimming pool terrace, while the latter is in an easily accessible spot above the kitchen and also benefits from those prime vistas stretching out across Myrtos Bay.

Outside, the lounger-lined swimming pool beckons with its crystal-clear waters, and there’s also an alfresco table and barbeque for dining in.

Pick up fresh local produce from Assos village, a short drive away, or stay there and dine in one of the local tavernas. With plenty more to see and do in the area, including swimming at Myrtos Bay, getting your dose of culture at Assos castle or snapping pictures of the pretty pastel-coloured houses, Assos Love is the perfect setting off point for couples, newlyweds and small families alike.

Assos Love Location

Assos Love is in the quiet and traditional village of Assos on the Ionian Island of Kefalonia. It shot to fame as a set of Louis de Bernieres' wartime novel – and later film – Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Years later, it still feels like an undiscovered secret with its serene natural setting, historic sites and a relaxed atmosphere.

Kefalonia is also renowned for its soft sandy beaches, mountain gorges and quaint harbour villages. Spend your days swimming in the crystal-clear waters, exploring the Venetian-style architecture or trying fresh local cuisine like seafood, mezes or moussaka.

The villa itself offers the perfect starting point for exploring more of this beautiful Ionian island. It’s only a short drive from must-see sights like the 15th-century Assos castle in Assos village and Myrtos bay with its picture-worthy beach that’s framed by tall cliffs – both seen from your terrace.

In Assos village, there are also verdant forests with pine and cypress trees to explore. The town is small and still retains its old-world charm with classic Ionian architecture and pretty pastel-coloured houses nestled into the steep hillside.

At the harbour, you can while away the afternoon watching fishing boats and luxury yachts mooring, while in the village square there are tavernas, shops and restaurants to dine at or do as the locals do and sip cold coffee. Assos beach is also a must visit, with its clear waters and fantastic views across the bay. You can relax on the pebbles or swim and snorkel in the sea.

From the villa, Assos village can be reached by car. The coastal route to get there is spectacular and takes in the dramatic rock formations and tranquil sea waters.

In Kefalonia, you’ll also find many intriguing caves to discover. There’s the magical underground lake of Melissanthi or Drogarati with its exquisite natural formations. You could also hop on a boat and head to the untouched coves, inlets and secluded beaches. Some tours stop off for lunch and swimming.

Or, for a dose of culture instead, head to Saint Gerasimos monastery. It’s an impressive 15th-century building that sits beneath Mount Ainos, near the villages Falgrata and Valsamata.
