The prosecutors’ union issued a statement on Friday calling for the government to ensure that all judicial officials have adequate police protection after Alternate Minister for Citizens’ Protection Yiannis Panoussis said that he would reduce the number of policemen assigned to security details.

“Due to the special nature of our duties and the public position we hold, the state must adopt special measures to ensure the protection of judicial officials, drawing a distinction with the guarding of other public figures or potential targets who may have the ability to maintain their own personal security,” the union said.
