The Greek coastguard along with local residents and bathers, are trying to rescue a young whale that has been stranded in the shallows of a Karavovrisi Beach, near Heraklion, Crete.

Local media report that the struggling 5 meter-long mammal was spotted early Friday morning seemingly unable to swim away from the beach.

Despite all efforts though, the whale is continuing to move further into shallow water.

Authorities are quoted by local media of saying that the whale is disoriented. They also said that she has some minor injuries on her ribs and her tail.
