“Italy and Greece have paid a very high price” due to the migration crisis, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said on Thursday, following a meeting with his Italian counterpart, Paolo Gentiloni, on the island of Corfu.

The Greek leader reiterated his position that “the migration crisis is a European problem, not a Greek or Italian problem.”

“We have shown the essential solidarity and taught Europe that our values are always alive,” Tsipras said.

“Europe must understand that these crises aren’t handled with walls but with more solidarity,” the Greek premier added.
