Dozens of firefighters battled through Monday night to contain a large wildfire in western Achaia.

Earlier, Greek authorities ordered the evacuation of the village of Arla, as the wildfire threatened local homes.

A bus was dispatched to the village to pick up the elderly and other vulnerable residents, who were then transported to nearby villages.

Earlier, the regional governor of Western Greece Apostolos Katsifaras, informed the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) that a large firefighting force is trying to stop the flames from reaching the houses, adding that strong winds in the area had reached 6 on the Beaufort scale.
