Hundreds of striking workers in the Greek tourism sector gathered outside the Labor Ministry to demonstrate against “flexible work and meager wages.”

The Tourism and Food Union that has called a 24-hour strike complains that employers in large hotels are forcing workers to sign contracts with extremely low wages and exhausting working hours.

It also points out that one-day contracts are becoming a usual occurrence in the sector.

The president of the union, George Stefanakis, said that a list of demands was handed to the Greek government which in reply stated that it will apply the law.

The law that “crashes our lives,” Stefanakis said and warned that the union will escalate the struggle.
