Greece’s former finance minister, Yanis Varoufakis, stated while speaking with Skai news over the weekend that his idea for a “parallel system” of payments was received positively by SYRIZA’s leadership, including Prime Minister Tsipras, as far back as 2013.

According to reports, Varoufakis “underlined that he unveiled his ‘IOU’ framework in the presence of today’s Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos – who succeeded him – current deputy PM Yannis Dragasakis and Economy & Development Minister Giorgos Stathakis.”

While speaking with Skai news Varoufakis said that his first presentation was held at SYRIZA’s party offices in 2013 followed by a meeting at the now Prime Minister, Tsipras’ apartment in November 2014. When some three months later leftist SYRIZA won snap elections, Varoufakis says he was asked to submit his proposal in writing, which he did, resulting in a 10-page report replete with specifications.
