Five out of eight Greeks who ran in Albania‘s Sunday elections managed to get elected, with Vangelis Dules, President of the Human Rights Party winning marginally in the Democratic Party ballot in the region of Avlonas.

However, the Greek participation in the election was impressively low. At Chimara, the participation was only 31%, and it was about the same in the municipality of Dropolis, areas with many Greek voters.

In the municipality of Phoenicia, which also has a big Greek population, participation was only 21%. In these municipalities, the Socialist Party came first in Chimara and Phoenicia and the Socialist Movement for Integration in the municipality of Dropolis.

The Hellenic Party, which participated independently and with an emphasis on the region of Avlonas, is second in the municipality of Phoenicia.

About 1,600,000 Albanians went to the polls, accounting for only 46% of the total population. This figure is considered to be the lowest of all poll results in Albania.

According to the official results of the Central Electoral Commission at 10:45 a.m. (local time), which corresponds to 39% of the total vote, the Socialist Party of Edi Rama is ahead with 49.47%. This percentage gives the Edi Rama Socialist Party 76 seats out of a total of 140, leaving the possibility of an autonomous government open. However, Rama himself, with today’s post on his personal website, called the result “a miracle that was not completed.”

The Democratic Party, the main opposition, came second with 28.4%, a drop of 10% as compared to the previous parliamentary elections. This percentage gives the party 41 seats in parliament.

The Socialist Movement of Integration with 15% and 20 seats came third. So far, the results show that there will be five parties in the Albanian parliament, out of the 18 that took part in the election.

The Cham party, the Democratic Integration and Unity, won two seats in the House.
