Following a letter from 471 students regarding widespread crime on the campus of Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, the educational institution’s senate says that it welcomes law enforcement intervention saying that they have an “open invitation” to investigate the claims of crime.

“The Senate supports the initiative of the students who decided to publicly express their reaction to a problem of which everyone is aware,” it said in an announcement on Friday, adding that the students’ claims were thought to be “exaggerated.”

“The Senate calls on the Greek state to employ every form of intervention to address this criminal activity,” the senate said. “There is an open invitation to the police to intervene in the areas of the university.”
