Thousands of people gathered in the Panathenaic Stadium on Monday evening to watch a historical concert dedicated to celebrating the works of renowned Composer Mikis Theodorakis.
For the first time in history, 1,000 choirs from 30 cities in Greece formed one large choir, which together with the Athenian Mandolinata Orchestra performed some of the masterpieces of the Greek songwriter. Mikis Theodorakis himself directed the closing of the concert.
During the concert, the audience listened to excerpts from the most important poetic works that the great composer has performed; some of which included: “Μικρές Κυκλάδες” (Small Cyclades), “Άξιον Εστί” (Axion Esti), Επιφάνια” (Epiphany), “Όμορφη Πόλη” (Beautiful City), “Archipelagos,” “Πολιτεία” (Politeia), “Λιποτάκτες” (Lipokataktes), “Χαιρετισμοί (Greetings) and “Neighborhood of the Angels,” all pieces were performed with the choral adaptation of Panagi Barbati.
Apart from the 1,000 choirs and the Athenian Mandolinata orchestra, the actors taking part included Yannis Stankoğlu, Ioanna Pappa, the lyric artists Gina Fotinopoulou, Eleni Voudouraki, Antonis Koronaios, Babis Velissarios, Pantelis Kontos and popular singer Gerasimos Andreatos.
