North Aegean: 270 Migrants Arrive in 5 Days

A total of 270 refugees and migrants crossed to the northern Aegean islands from Turkey in the past five days, according to authorities.

From Thursday up until Tuesday morning, 75 migrants and refugees landed on Lesvos and another 195 on Chios.

According to the North Aegean General Police Directorate, currently there are 9,081 people on the North Aegean islands in official migrant camps and other hospitality structures. Lesvos hosts 3,138 asylum seekers, Chios hosts 3,993 and Samos 1,950.

At the same time, and according to data on the Turkish Coast Guard website, there have been eight interceptions of boats carrying migrants and refugees trying to cross to the Greek islands. Also, there were 273 people returned to the Turkish coasts, and four traffickers were arrested.
