“The fall of Constantinople is a victory – an example for all mankind,” Tayyip Erdogan said in his speech on the 564th anniversary of the fall of the city.

The Turkish president also said: “We are fighting to serve this glorious city with the same faith, determination and will that opened the doors of Constantinople 564 years ago.”

Erdogan also described Constantinople as a “showcase” of Turkey saying that the city is a small “summary” for the people and society of Turkey, noting that one can call Turkey “Constantinople” and vice versa.

In his speech he did not fail to mention Fenerbahce’s victory at Euroleague’s Final 4, as well as the 15th consecutive victory of Besiktas in the country’s football league.

“Besiktas conquered the Super Lig. I congratulate the team, and I also congratulate Fenerbahce for the final 4, “Erdogan said.
