The New York chapter of AHEPA hosted an event dedicated to War Veterans and their service dogs in New York, May 18.
The fundraiser took place at the Terrace in the Park in Flushing, NY and included a special speech and appearance by Michael Downs, an officer on leave who had just received his service dog.
The service dogs are an important part of the after war life for the Veterans and play such an important role in their healing from the battlefields.
AHEPA is the largest Greek-American organization, founded on July 26, 1922 in response to the evils of bigotry and racism that emerged in early 20th century American society.
Today, AHEPA brings the ideals of ancient Greece, which includes philanthropy, education, civic responsibility, and family and individual excellence to the community.
