Greek PM to Meet With Russian President, IMF Chief in Beijing

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is to meet with top officials during his stay in Beijing for the Silk Road Forum (May 14-15), according to Maximos mansion.

The forum is to promote Chinese President Xi Jinping’s vision of expanding links between Asia, Africa and Europe involving billions of dollars in infrastructure investment.

While in China, the Greek premier is to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde and United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres and other officials.

Tsipras also intends to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, but Ankara has not replied to Greece’s request yet. A total of 28 world leaders will attend the Silk Road Forum.

The Greek prime minister and the UN secretary general will discuss the Cyprus issue, the political upheavals in the Balkans and the refugee crisis. Also, in his meeting with the IMF chief, the premier will discuss the Greek debt issue.

After China, Tsipras will have bilateral meetings with world leaders at the NATO summit in Brussels on May 25.
