ESM and German FinMin freeze debt relief expectations

A Handelsblatt story yesterday indicated that Greece’s creditors prepare a plan to relief Greece of part of its deb; it reportedly includes ESM buying EUR 13bn of IMF loans that mature in 2019.

However, the German MinFin in an email to Reuters refuted press reports that they plan debt relief measures, reiterating the decisions of the May 2016 Eurogroup.

Moreover, an ESM spokesman stated yesterday that it is not clear today whether the talks regarding the Greek debt will have a tangible result.
