Migrant Arrivals Increase on Aegean Islands; Greek Coast Guard Rescues 114 Refugees Near Chios

According to the Greek coast guard, 114 refugees have been recused off the coasts of Lesvos and Chios — two Aegean islands that are considered hotspots — in the past week.

Also the coast guard announced 177 new migrant arrivals on the eastern Aegean islands over the past four days, including 32 migrants arriving between Monday and Tuesday on Samos and 107 people on Chios.

Authorities have reported that the overcrowded hotspots are currently hosting over their capacity with 3,183 migrants waiting for their asylum applications to be processed on Lesvos, 3,718 on Chios and a total of 1,780 on Samos.
