Santorini’s Local Wines

Santorini has a long history of making wine and recently the island has become more popular for foodies looking to experience traditional and unique drinks. With the perfect soil and land to cultivate wonderful grapes along with an ideal climate the volcanic island is fast becoming known as a wine destination. While on Santorini you can take part in a wine tour and sample the best the island has to offer.

Visit Corfu and Try a Unique Dish of Sofrito

Corfu has many Italian influences because of its proximity to Italy which you can see as you walk down the narrow streets and taste the culinary delights that the Greek island has to offer. One favorite dish which is unique to Corfu is sofrito. Foodies go wild for the island’s classic combination of beef cooked in a local white wine sauce, with garlic and fresh parsley.

Try some Greek Cheese on Kefalonia

The island of Kefalonia is known across Greece to many as the traditional home of feta cheese and its roots on the island date back to Homer’s times. Also, the island is known for other cheese varieties — one of the most popular besides feta is kefalotyri which is a white hard cheese from sheep’s milk and has a distinct flavor that goes well with many Greek dishes.

Visit Mykonos for Fresh Octopus

The island of Mykonos is known for its beaches and fresh seafood. Octopus — caught fresh everyday — can be found hanging from the lines outside of local tavernas. This typical Greece dish is very popular during the summer months as fishermen head to the seas and use traditional spear fishing techniques to catch the octopus, tenderize the meat and then hang them out to dry and serve them up fresh off the grill!
