A horse was injured after its carriage collided with a taxi in central Athens on Sunday afternoon, Hellenic Police says.

The incident took place on Amalias Street, across Zappeion park, near the Greek Parliament. Bystanders told police that the collision between the taxi and the horse carriage was violent, but it is uncertain which of the two drivers is responsible.

The animal was bleeding profusely as a motorcycle rescue unit arrived immediately on the spot and gave first aid to the horse

The two rescuers managed to stop the bleeding and then carried the horse with a specially designed truck to the racetrack veterinary clinic.
