Weapons and Ammunition Found Inside Mosque in Xanthi, Greece

Greek police on Tuesday, discovered weapons and ammunition inside a mosque in the city of Xanthi, northeastern Greece.

According to exclusive information released by newspaper Ekathimerini, Greek security services received a heads up some hours ago to check on a mosque located at the Iliopetra passage of Topeiros; upon investigation the unit discovered two hidden guns, including one with a silencer and a large number of cartridges of various calibers.

The Imam, responsible for the operation of the mosque, presented himself before a prosecutor to provide an explanation.

The leadership of the Ministry of Citizen Protection, and government officials have been informed as this case comes to light during a particularly sensitive period for Greek-Turkish relations.
