Five Children Among 12 Dead in Shipwreck Off Turkey

Five children are among the 12 people who drowned on Friday in their attempt to reach Greece. As reported by news agency Dogan, the inflatable boat that they were on, sank in the open sea of Kusadasi.

There were 22 people on board the dinghy boat, mostly refugees from Syria. Seven of them were rescued while three others are missing and investigations are ongoing to identify them. Among the dead are two women.

Authorities have arrested two Turkish traffickers who managed to swim to shore unharmed.
