“We will provide further assistance to Greece” to tackle the refugee crisis said German Chancellor Angela Merkel after the EU summit in Brussels on Thursday.

The German chancellor said that Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras asked for more support in order to handle the refugee influx. “We are moving slowly,” Merkel said, “but we have not yet reached a steady state on the migration issue.”

Earlier, the German chancellor said that the situation of refugees on the Greek islands is far from satisfactory. Merkel spoke about the need for a new European Asylum System, an issue that should involve EU interior ministers.
