Over the past few years there has been an increasing amount of cultural exchanges between Greece and China and with 2017 dubbed as the Year of Greek-Chinese Friendship, this year is sure to be packed with events. The latest involves the exchange of two exhibitions that showcase ancient Greek and Chinese science and technology which will be open in parallel in both Athens and Beijing.
On Tuesday officials announced during a press conference at the Museum Herakleidon in Athens that the exhibition called Ancient Chinese Science and Technology will be shown at their museum and that the event will run from September 2017 through January 2018. Organizers said that the aim of the exhibitions was to give visitors the chance to observe everything from “astronomy, mechanical engineering and seismography to papermaking, printing and weaving techniques,” news.xinhuanet.com reported.
The Museum Herakleidon in Athens and the China Science and Technology Museum (CSTM) of Beijing collaborated to also organize the parallel event of EUREKA: Science, Art and Technology of the Ancient Greeks, which will be shown from October 2017 through March 2018 in Beijing, at the CSTM. Here visitors will see everything from reproductions of ancient Greek ships to the machinery that was used in crafting metal.
The two exhibits will showcase achievements in technology and science from both ancient societies. Paul Fyros, founder of the Herakleidon museum added that “It is a unique opportunity for both our nations to learn each other’s achievements.”
