Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu arrived late Monday night at the occupied northern part of Cyprus to meet with Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci and hold a press conference.

The visit comes after the sudden withdrawal of Akinci from peace talks last Thursday. Diplomats say that the Cavusoglu meeting comes at a time when reunification negotiations between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides are at a fragile point.

Cavusoglu met with Akinci at 11:30 am while a press conference is scheduled at 3:00 pm.

Meanwhile, at 5:00 pm, Akinci is scheduled to meet with Elizabeth Spehar, United Nations Secretary-General Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).
