Police have reported that 15 more electronic ticket machines at the ISAP railway station in Eirini have been vandalized. The vandalism took place shortly after a soccer game with an AEK win over Olympiakos, however, it was not clarified if the outcome of the game had anything to do with the event in the initial reports.

According to estimates, the cost to the public from people dodging fares for public transportation in Greece comes to an annual amount of 40 and 60 million euros which has led the authorities to install new electronic ticket validating machines at stations throughout the country.

Now with the addition of these 15 more electronic machines being destroyed, acts of vandalism have thus far resulted in 142 machines — at least 80 of which were new ticket validating machines, 41 ticket barriers and six ticket dispensers in total since summer of 2016 when the new installs were made. Police on motorcycles are also patrolling many of the stations in order to help curb the increase in vandalism.
