The Thomas Cook travel agency enjoyed a 40% rise in bookings to Greece in the last quarter, mostly attributed to holidaymakers’ fear of terrorist acts in Turkey and other countries that face similar threats.

According to a Daily Mail online report, the tourism agency also saw an increasing demand for Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus and Portugal.

However, the report says, despite the substantial increase of bookings to Greece, the company’s overall bookings over the summer period rose by just 1% compared to last year, while average prices for customers rose 2%.

Thomas Cook said while there was a “solid start” to the year, the company is reserved because of “the uncertain political and economic outlook.”
