A small number of remains were discovered a few days ago during excavations in a field in the village of Angastina, located in the occupied district of Famagusta. The discovery has raised the hopes of finding other missing persons by the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) bicommunal team responsible for carrying out excavations since last November.

As reported by the Cyprus News Agency, head of the team geologist Yiannis Ioannou, working with CMP since 2006, and archaeologist Mustafa Emre, working with CMP since 2011, stated that the findings indicate four Greek Cypriots were buried in the area beyond the three that were found four years ago.

Mr. Ioannou added, “This is the second phase of excavation underway, the first phase took place in 2013 and we found the remains of three individuals and now because the new information was about seven missing in this area, the CMP decided to extend the excavation site and the area under investigation is now pretty big, to see if there are more remains.”
