Two men with their faces covered entered in an apartment in the Peristeri neighborhood in Athens on Thursday, shot a couple in the head and stabbed their son in the jaw.

According to police, the perpetrators entered the home of the four-member Albanian family, overpowered the 53-year-old man and his 50-year-old wife in their bedroom and demanded money. For unknown reasons they shot the couple in the head, snatched a purse with money and fled. However, in the apartment there was the 19-year-old daughter and 28-year-old son of the couple, who happens to have mental problems. Exiting the apartment, the robbers stabbed the son in the jaw.

The shooting victims were transferred to Attikon Hospital, but the woman succumbed to her wounds. The man is hospitalized in critical condition.

Police are investigating all aspects of the case, and officials have not ruled out the possibility that the victims knew their assailants.
