Greece and Europe must not become complacent at the rise of extreme-right movements in Europe and must never forget the atrocities of the Second World War, President Prokipis Pavlopoulos said on Friday, during a speech at the exhibition I Don’t Forget: One Picture is a Thousand Words, housed at Zappion, central Athens.
“We must never forget…because we should never ever allow again the nightmare of the Second World War, the nightmares of Nazism, to threaten again the future and progress of mankind. It is our duty to do this, mainly the generation which – in the broadest sense – still has vivid memories of that era,” he said.
“We must not assume that the fossils of Nazism, which we see springing up around Europe, are insignificant. They are not insignificant,” he added.
