City of Athens to Welcome New Year With Ceremonies

The city of Athens will hail in the New Year in January with the “reveille” played by the Armed Forces and Security Forces and the firing of shots from the gun emplacement on Lycabettus Hill at 7:41a.m.This will be followed by the hoisting of the flag on the Acropolis at 8 a.m. and the official thanksgiving service at the Athens Cathedral by the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Ieronymos II at 11 a.m.
