Pyrros Dimas (13/10/1971 - )

Pyrros Dimas Pyrros Dimas is a Greek weightlifter and thrice golden Olympic champion.

He was born in Himare, Albania, to Greek parents. He first started his career in weightlifting when he was seven years old, in 1978. He won the Golden Medal at the Olympic Games of Barcelona in 1992, of Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney in 2000. During the Olympic Games of Athens in 2004, he won the Bronze Medal. He has also won the first place in the World Championships of 1993, 1995 and 1998. He is the world record holder in the 83 kg category, which was cancelled after the Atlanta Olympic Games. In 1992, he won the third place at the European Championship, thus managing to get a place in the Olympic Games of Barcelona. During the Olympic Games of Atlanta and Athens, he was the flag bearer of Greece. In March 2005, in Istanbul, he was elected the best athlete of the century by the World Weightlifting Association. In May 2012, along with the Chinese Olympic Champion Li Nig, they lit the altar of the Panathinaiko Stadium at the Handover Ceremony of the Olympic Flame.

In the elections of 6 May 2012, Pyrros Dimas was elected Member of the Parliament under the PASOK political party.
